Every amateur chef has a set of wooden spoons. But they probably don't have drumstick shaped ones!! And you can never have too many spoons. These beechwood spoons will come in handy for mixing and for rockin'. if they are a drummer AND a chef--well, then it is the perfect gift!

Spring Flea

We had a blast at the Spring Flea this past Sunday. We set up a booth with our friends from Rivet and brought some sale items from the store, as well as some goodies from our own collection at home--some rock tees, casette tapes, cds, vhs tapes, collectibles like Pez dispensers, pin up girls cards, and old wrestler toys from the 80's. All kinds of vendors setting up their wares in the Fireproof Building Parking Lot at 2nd and High. There were vintage goods, records, hand crafted jewelry and other goods, Ohio tees, handmade gotas milk soap, plants, etc, etc. Tried an awesome new food cart the Freedom a la Cart. Great snadwiches!!! I ordered the Liberator, which had pulled pork fried plantains, white beans and avocado sauce. Yum!! Jeni's ice cream, Brezel, and a donut place were also set up. The DJ spun some fine tunes and the weather was perfect for an outdoor market. If you missed it, there will be another one in August. We are slowly working some of the stuff from the Flea into the store as room allows. We have some gently used but nice tees, pez dispensers, pin up girls cards, belts and bags in the store now. Devo has a new home!!

Devo, the temporary store kitty that we found and were growing attached to, has found a new home! He was adopted by a friend of a friend who has been searching for the perfect cat for her family. She and her 6 year old son quickly fell in love with him. He traveled all the way to Syracuse NY and is settling in nicely in his new home. He has a great big bird watching window and a big house to run around and play. We will surely miss him, but we are so glad he found such a great home. Goodbye Devo!!

DEVO--a new store kitty.?..

We found this sweet, beautiful black cat last month meowing to get in out of the rain. He appeared to be somebody's lost pet, as he was clean and loved people. We called around to all the shelters, posted flyers, and asked around if anyone knew whose kitty this was. Nobody responded. We had been keeping him at the store until we found out who he belonged to. We have two cats at home, and Zorro, our part time store kitty, was now going to have to give up her store time until we found out what we were going to do with this cat. We wanted to keep him separate from our other two cats until we found out he was healthy. So we grew more attached to this little guy, (he really loves being held and petted), and it seems as if nobody wanted him. We have now named him Devo and are going to get him fixed and all of his shots updated next week. So it appears as if we now have a new store cat. More details to come....

Torn Angel Hair Clips--Local clothing designer Esther Myong Chung creates these cute flower hair clips made from scraps of silk, organza, etc. and accented with beads...

Emily, of Umbrella Girl Productions, has also brightened up our store with her lovely new potholders featuring sugar skulls, cupcakes, and guitars. She also brought us some cute cards with cassette tapes and pirates on them.

Local jewelry maker Jill Brown, from Out of The Pink Sky, brought us some cute cat butt earrings. These are hilarious and super fun to wear. These will be sure to get the conversation rolling. Who doesn't love cats and their annoying habit of showing you their butts?

Another really great book we received is the Joan Jett Book by Todd Oldham. It covers her life story from birth to present day, chronicling her music career and a little bit of her early family life. It talks mostly about the Runaways, her early influences, her solo career, album production, songwriting, touring with her band The Blackhearts, and her guitar sound and technique. LOTS of pictures throughout--some have never been published before, epehmera (such as hand written song lyrics), and excerpts from 30 years of interviews. Includes a forward from Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill. This book pays true homage to the goddess of rock and roll, Joan Jett, who continues to inspire rock fans today.

What the Rock?! is part of the Columbus Crafty Cotillion, a group of Columbus Ohio based crafters. They are sponsoring a screening of Handmade Nation, a documentary by Faythe Levine chronicling the rise of the indie craft movement. And, the screening is held in conjunction with our Spring Trunk featuring new works from our members. I will be selling my new jewelry there, as well as many other talented artists!

The screening will be held Saturday, May 8th at 3pm at Studio 35 (3055 Indianola Ave.). The trunk show will precede the screening from 1-3pm. Arrive early to enjoy a beer and shop for the perfect handmade Mother's Day gift.

I made an artpiece for the one day art show called "Art Makes Noise", which happened on Febtuary 27th at Junctionview Studios. The theme was art work inspired by music and/or music lyrics. It was an amazing show with a bunch of talented artists, including Amy Neiwirth, who made incredible ticket stub jewelry, Core Roc, Mike Bush, Larry Doyle, Rob Jones, and Laura Alexander who made a papercut piece using a map, inspired by the song "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (I love that song!) The show also featured a live performance by local favorites Super Desserts as well as karaoke by KJ Dirtyoke. A portion of the proceeds went to the Franklinton Arts District.

This years SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Festival in Austin, TX looks like it will be another killer show. This is the place to hear about the best up and coming bands and see established stars play all in the same week. This year Columbus' own Lydia Loveless will be there, as well as Wanda Jackson, Andrew W.K., The Muffs, She Wants Revenge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Ozomatli, High on Fire, Acid Mothers Temple, Mad Lib, Peanut Butter Wolf, Suzanne Vega, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Spoon....and a whole bunch of other bands I have never heard of. As if that's not enough, there's also an abundance of films and interactive media, vendors, classes, demos, etc.

We are sending samples of my guitar pick jewelry to the SXSW Music Festival. It will be placed in the dressing room of the musicians, to see if they might want to wear it onstage, or just around town. Along with that, we get to put out cards and flyers and such. Hopefully, someone will fall in love with the jewelry, or be intrigued enough by it to pick up a card and check out our website. Wish us luck!!!

Austin, Texas!!!!

We took a well desreved and relaxing vacation to Austin, Texas a few weeks back. It was awesome! Very nice town with cool little shops along South Congress, great food, and a laid back vibe. We had a great time with our old friends and can't wait to go back again.
